STATUTE OF THE WORLD BADMINTON COUNCIL (WBC)
PREAMBLE
The World Badminton Council (WBC) is established to promote, develop, govern, and protect the sport of badminton worldwide. The Council is committed to the principles of integrity, fairness, equality, transparency, and good governance.
Article 1 – Name
The name of the organization shall be the World Badminton Council (WBC), hereinafter referred to as “the Council.”
Article 2 – Nature
- The Council is an independent, non-profit international sports organization.
- The Council shall be politically and religiously neutral.
- The Council shall conduct its affairs in accordance with these Statutes and applicable law.
Article 3 – Objectives
The objectives of the Council are to:
- Promote badminton throughout the world.
- Organize international competitions and championships.
- Develop coaching, officiating, and player education.
- Encourage participation at all levels.
- Protect the integrity of badminton.
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Foster friendship through sport.
Article 4 – Headquarters
The headquarters of the Council shall be determined by the General Assembly. Regional offices may be established as required.
Article 5 – Membership
Membership shall consist of:
- National Member Associations.
- Continental Councils.
- Associate Members.
- Honorary Members.
Each sovereign nation or territory may be represented by one recognized National Member Association.
Article 6 – Rights of Members
Members shall have the right to:
- Attend the General Assembly.
- Vote in accordance with these Statutes.
- Submit motions.
- Participate in Council competitions.
- Receive development support.
Article 7 – Duties of Members
Members shall:
- Comply with these Statutes.
- Respect Council regulations.
- Promote ethical conduct.
- Pay annual membership fees.
- Submit required reports and information.
Article 8 – Governing Bodies
The governing bodies of the Council shall be:
- General Assembly.
- Executive Board.
- President.
- Standing Committees.
- Ethics and Disciplinary Commission.
- Audit Committee.
Article 9 – General Assembly
The General Assembly is the supreme authority of the Council and shall:
- Elect officers.
- Approve the budget.
- Approve amendments to the Statutes.
- Admit, suspend, or expel members.
- Decide strategic policies.
The General Assembly shall meet annually.
Article 10 – Executive Board
The Executive Board shall consist of:
- President
- First Vice President
- Vice Presidents
- Secretary General
- Treasurer
- Six elected Board Members
The Executive Board shall manage the affairs of the Council between General Assembly meetings.
Article 11 – President
The President shall:
- Represent the Council internationally.
- Chair meetings.
- Ensure implementation of Council decisions.
- Promote the development of badminton.
Article 12 – Committees
Standing Committees may include:
- Competition Committee
- Technical Committee
- Development Committee
- Coaching Committee
- Officiating Committee
- Athletes’ Commission
- Medical Committee
- Ethics Committee
- Para Badminton Committee
Article 13 – Elections
- Officers shall be elected by secret ballot.
- The term of office shall be four (4) years.
- No elected officer may serve more than three consecutive terms in the same office.
Article 14 – Finance
Council income may be derived from:
- Membership fees
- Sponsorships
- Broadcasting rights
- Competition revenues
- Grants
- Donations
The accounts shall be independently audited each financial year.
Article 15 – Ethics
The Council shall maintain the highest standards of:
- Integrity
- Transparency
- Accountability
- Fair play
- Anti-discrimination
- Conflict-of-interest management
Article 16 – Anti-Doping
The Council shall adopt and enforce anti-doping rules consistent with internationally recognized standards.
Article 17 – Disciplinary Matters
The Council may investigate and sanction breaches of its Statutes, regulations, or codes of conduct through an independent disciplinary process.
Article 18 – Amendments
These Statutes may be amended by a two-thirds majority of votes cast at the General Assembly, provided notice has been given at least sixty (60) days before the meeting.
Article 19 – Dissolution
The Council may only be dissolved by a three-quarters majority of the General Assembly. Any remaining assets shall be transferred to a non-profit organization with similar sporting purposes.
Article 20 – Entry into Force
These Statutes shall enter into force upon their adoption by the Founding General Assembly of the World Badminton Council.
